Hundreds of DA crimes recorded under new Scottish law

A total of 414 cases of coercive and controlling behaviour were recorded by Police Scotland in the three months after the activity was criminalised in April.

Of those cases, 190 were reported to prosecutors and 13 people convicted.

The constabulary has trained 18,500 officers and staff on domestic abuse and the new offence since December.

Local media quoted Scottish Women’s Aid chief executive Marsha Scott as saying: “We were happy to hear some encouraging reports in the first month after implementation, but we are keeping a watching brief, as reports from our services across the country indicate that women’s experiences when reporting under the new law have varied from place to place.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
