Judge gives sobbing abuser no sympathy

A 26-year-old man who punched and bit his partner sobbed in the dock as he faced Judge Robert Egbuna at Derby Crown Court.

“You need to stop crying in front of court. Your partner is here. She is the one that should be crying,” Judge Egbuna was quoted as saying by the Derbyshire Live news portal.

“You weren’t crying when you beat up your partner. It is not going to work on me. Domestic violence is domestic violence.”

In mitigation, the defendant’s barrister Mark Knowles said: “He is having a hard time in prison.”

The defendant was jailed for three months, including a month after Judge Egbuna activated a suspended sentence for assaulting his partner when she was six-months pregnant.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
