Marked rise in Northern Ireland’s DA cases in festive period

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) received 1,782 reports of domestic crime incidents between 15 December and 16 January, a 13.2% increase on the year-ago period.

“These figures tell us more victims are finding the courage to pick up the phone and make a report, which is encouraging, but we must always remember behind each statistic is a victim,” said detective chief superintendent Paula Hilman, head of PSNI’s public protection branch.

The police service pointed out the increase in reported crimes is partly due to harassment and malicious communications offences now being recorded in the statistics.
