The British government is providing an extra £28m to provide more safe spaces, accommodation and access to support services for survivors of domestic abuse and their children during the coronavirus lockdown.
The cash is the first funding from a £750m package for charities announced by chancellor Rishi Sunak last month to ensure they can continue their work during the Covid-19 crisis.
The home office is providing an additional £2m to immediately bolster domestic abuse helplines and online support during the lockdown.
The government also announced a rule change so those facing homelessness as a result of fleeing domestic abuse will be automatically considered as priority by their council for housing, ensuring more survivors have access to a safe home.
