Boxing champ fined for ‘DA’ social media post

WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders has been found guilty of misconduct and fined £15,000 by the British Boxing Board of Control for a ‘domestic abuse’ social media video.

He had filmed himself punching a bag and advising “dads, husbands and men with girlfriends” how to deal with their female partners during the coronavirus lockdown.

After being heavily criticised for the posting, Saunders apologised for the “silly mistake” and pledged to donate £25,000 to domestic abuse charities. His promoter Eddie Hearn described the video as idiotic and unacceptable.

Saunders’ boxing licence was immediately withdrawn by the British board when the video emerged early in the lockdown in March. His licence was re-instated after he was fined for misconduct.
