Farah Nazeer has been appointed as chief executive officer (CEO) of Women’s Aid, starting 1 March.
She has more than 20 years of director-level experience with charities, mainly dealing with women’s rights and gender issues and is currently deputy director of advocacy at Action Aid UK, a role which seeks to end gender-based violence and ensure women’s economic rights.
Nazeer said: “At a time when increasing numbers of women are experiencing domestic abuse, the work of Women’s Aid and the need to champion women’s rights is as urgent as ever.”
Women’s Aid’s former permanent CEO, Katie Ghose, stepped down in February 2019 after being criticised for speaking at a UKIP conference when she was chief executive of the Electoral Reform Society. During the interim Woman’s Aid had two co-acting chief executives, Adina Claire and Nicki Norman, for 14 months.
