Men Overcoming Violence (MOVE) in Ireland has been reprimanded by the country’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) after recordings of counselling session involving up to 120 men went missing.
The videos may have shown them talking about behaviour and attitudes to domestic violence, the DPC said in its findings.
The 18 SD cards the recordings were on included disclosure of behaviours, feelings and attitudes towards current or ex-partners, other family members, and friends who may have been named by the men being counselled, the Irish Examiner reported the commission as adding.
The DPC found MOVE infringed the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by failing to implement measures to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk inherent in recording such sensitive information. The commission fined the charity €1,500 (£1,280).
The recorded sessions were first noted as being missing in the Sligo area in December 2019 and MOVE made a mandatory report to the DPC two months later, the newspaper reported.
