Government increases support for DA victims

Westminster will give a further £125m to English councils from April to ensure refuges, shelters and other safe accommodation spaces can offer support services to domestic abuse survivors.

The funding will cover healthcare, interpreters, immigration advice, drug or alcohol support, access to social workers and benefits, and other specialist services as required.

The department for levelling up, housing and communities says its new cash takes the total to more than £330m since 2014.

The Local Government Association welcomed the new funding, saying it matched what the government has provided for the first year of councils’ extra responsibilities under the 2021 Domestic Abuse Act.
