Victims of domestic abuse in Kent are promised an enhanced response and help through a new system set up by the county’s police force.
Dubbed the Domestic Abuse Hub, it includes victims speaking with an officer via video technology which enables speedy crime recording, statement taking and the capture of evidence, such as the scene of the incident and any visible injuries.
In addition, an officer can immediately implement safeguarding and referrals to partner agencies, subject to a victim’s consent.
The police force stressed the new service is not a replacement for a traditional call back or visit: officers will always attend an incident or victim when needed.
Establishment of the Domestic Abuse Hub from 18 May comes soon after Her Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary Roy Wilsher found Kent Police’s response to domestic abuse was of particular concern, though he accepted the force was taking steps to improve its handling of such cases.
