Domestic abuse survivors and their supporters marched through Northampton and held a silent demonstration outside West Northamptonshire Council’s headquarters in protest at how the authority handled allegations of domestic against then leader, councillor John Nunn.
Chief executive Anna Earnshaw’s reference to domestic abuse as a personal matter angered victims and supporters, saying it made them feel unheard, and her “dangerous” comments could set back their work by years, local media reported.
Since the claims against Nunn became public, he has stood down as council leader, left the Conservative party and now sits as an independent member. He denies the allegations against him.
