Stacey Rothwell has won the innovation award at the government’s Science and Engineering (GSE) Awards for her work devising Rapid Video Response (RVR), secure technology which guarantees domestic violence victims video access to a police officer.
Based on a pilot project in Kent, RVR cuts response time to three minutes from around 33 hours, significantly increased victim satisfaction, reduces their anxiety, increased the number of arrests by around 50% and saved 40% on investigation time, said chief scientific adviser Professor Paul Taylor. The scheme will now be rolled out nationally.
Rothwell is network director for the government-funded Eastern Region Innovation technology hub.
