Teesside action to tackle child-to-parent abuse
The domestic abuse operational group in Stockton, northeast England, and Cleveland Police are working to address child-to-parent abuse through preventative interventions.
The issue has moved up the agenda following a man in his 30s stabbing his mother to death in Middlesbrough in March after he stopped taking anti-psychotic medication which had kept him stable.
The need to avoid a similar killing was partly behind the move, domestic abuse co-ordinator at Stockton Council, Rachel Batey, said at a meeting of the authority’s health and well-being board, the Teesside Live news portal reported.
The meeting was also told that attacks by serial abusers have dropped 13% after a task force was set up last year and there are plans to look more closely at the top ten repeat abuse cases.
