Cheshire police launch scheme to prevent abusers re-offending

A programme has been introduced in custody suites at Chester, Middlewich and Runcorn to enable those committing domestic abuse-related offences to stop offending.

Perpetrators taken into custody will be offered access to support services and a behavioural change programme on their release. Participation is voluntary.

Cheshire Police has launched the scheme with My CWA which supports families affected by domestic abuse in the county. My CWA-recruited experts will now be on hand in custody suites to help alleged offenders.

The charity said: “The support service does not replace the criminal process; this is still implemented as usual. But for offenders wishing to change their behaviour the new service provides opportunity to avoid future harmful actions and break the cycle of domestic abuse.”

The Cheshire scheme is thought to be the first if its kind in the UK, according to My CWA.
