The coming together of 23 agencies to work with domestic abuse perpetrators in Cleveland has seen a welcome reduction in offending, says the local constabulary.
Of the 43 people who started on the Matac scheme in its first year, 22 have been discharged and not committed any further abuse offences according to police records.
Meanwhile West Mercia’s police and crime commissioner John Campion has increased funding for Women’s Aid to introduce Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs) in hospitals across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.
“Survivors who have been supported by the service have previously said that they felt ‘safe’ and ‘protected’ and that they saw their IDVA as their ‘guardian angel’,” he said.
From 13 August those who abuse their partner in Dorset will have to attend a two-day Cautions and Relationship Abuse (Cara) domestic violence workshop as part of a conditional caution issued by the county’s police.
Elsewhere, Dyfed-Powys police officers have been visiting campsites, tourist attractions and the night-time economy during the summer to talk to people about domestic abuse.
In Wiltshire, police have asked people to be good neighbours and act if they hear domestic abuse. The initiatives are the constabularies’ proactive response to the number of domestic violence/abuse incidents rising during the summer holidays.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
