Scotland’s MPs seek views on emergency barring orders

The Scottish Parliament’s justice committee is asking for opinions from interested parties on the government’s proposed Domestic Abuse Protection Orders (DAPOs) and Domestic Abuse Protection Notices (DAPNs).

They are contained in the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Bill which, if approved, would give courts and police power to remove a suspected domestic abuse perpetrator from a shared home, or stop them contacting the person deemed to be at risk.

Committee convener Adam Tomkins said members want to know how the orders will work in practice, and how the government proposes ensuring their appropriate use.
“The committee hopes to gather a wide range of views in order to help us scrutinise these proposals and ensure legislation that works for those in need of the protection it may offer,” he said.

The period for comment lasts until 4 December.
