The performers face accusations – which they deny – of abuse and mistreatment of women.

Their music will still be available on Spotify, but not pushed to listeners.

In a statement, the streaming service said it does not censor content because of an artist’s or creator’s behaviour, but it wants what it programmes to reflect its values. “When an artist or creator does something that is especially harmful or hateful, it may affect the ways we work with or support that artist or creator,” Spotify said.

Commentators see the service’s action as marking a cultural shift in the music industry in the wake of the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment of women at work.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
