[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The housing service run by Southwark Borough Council in London is the first to be accredited by the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance for national best practice in the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy.
Southwark Housing Solutions earned the award by making dealing and responding to domestic abuse a priority in the borough.
The council is also working on a policy which will see perpetrators of domestic abuse evicted from the family home, not the victim should the victim wish to stay.
“This way we hope to keep children and the victims of abuse safe from further disruption and distress caused by their housing issues,” said councillor Stephanie Cryan, cabinet member for housing and modernisation.
There has been early take up of an initiative West Dunbartonshire Council launched in June whereby victims of domestic abuse are given tenancy rights to a shared home should they wish to remain. The person responsible for the abuse will be moved.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
